HAND BURNISHED
Hand Burnishing is a traditional finishing technique where the leather edges are carefully sanded, polished, and burnished by hand to create a smooth, natural finish.
Recommended for those who prefer:

EDGE PAINT
Edge Paint is a finishing technique that applies multiple layers of premium edge paint to create a smooth, sealed, and refined edge.
Recommended for those who prefer:

- Enhanced protection against moisture and daily wear.
- A wider range of color options to complement the leather.
Which leathers are compatible with each edge finish?
Vegetable-Tanned Leather

All of the vegetable-tanned leathers above can be finished with either Hand Burnished or Edge Paint, depending on your preferred style and aesthetic.
Although Buttero Hatch is compatible with both Hand Burnished and Edge Paint, we generally recommend Edge Paint. The embossed hatch texture pairs beautifully with Edge Paint, creating a cleaner, more refined, and more consistent appearance while providing excellent edge protection. If you prefer a more traditional handcrafted look, Hand Burnished is still available upon request.
Chrome-Tanned Leather
All chrome-tanned leathers are recommended to be finished with Edge Paint only. Due to their fiber structure, chrome-tanned leathers are not ideal for traditional hand burnishing, and Edge Paint provides a cleaner, more durable, and more consistent finish.
Which finish is more durable?
Both Hand Burnished and Edge Paint are highly durable when properly crafted and maintained.
